To Promote Positive Education

Objectives
To help students develop their positive thinking skills and sense of happiness in order to reach their full potential and overcome difficulties and challenges




Strategies / Tasks
  • To help students develop their positive mindset
  • The description of 24 Character Strengths will be shared in the morning assembly at least once a week.
  • J.4-6: Draw a comic to describe one’s Character Strength(s) in English lessons.

 

  • J.1-3: Write a sentence to describe one’s Character Strength(s).(e.g. I love learning.  I look for new ways to learn things every day.).
  • Collaborative teaching with Computer Subject is implemented in J.1-3.  
  • J.1: Type the sentence in Microsoft Word.
  • J.2: Use Draw and Tell App to record the sentence and draw or use PowerVoice.
  • J.3: Use Artweaver design a card.

 



 
To Advocate Self-learning

 

Objectives
2.1 To enhance students' learning motivation and to cultivate students' self-learning habits and reflective ability
2.2 To advance thinking skills continually and strengthen students' self-learning ability
2.3 To cater for students' learning diversity

Strategies / Tasks

To enhance students’ learning motivation and effectiveness, Information Technology is applied in teaching and learning.

  • Use e-learning platforms (e.g. eClass, STAR, HKEdcity, Google tools, etc.)
  • Use Apps (e.g. Kahoot, Quizlet, Quizizz, Mentimeter, etc.)
  • Use PowerLesson 2.0
  • J.1-6: Design Pre / In / Post-lesson tasks in three lesson plans
  • J.4-6: Design one full version (including Pre, In and Post-lesson tasks)

To cultivate students’ learning interest and enhance their self-learning attitude, diversified and practicable programmes and lesson plans are designed.  Coursework is refined.

  • Shared Reading lessons are implemented in J.1-J.2 in order to develop their reading interest and strengthen their reading skills.
  • Self-directed learning strategies (preparation / extended learning) and metacognitive strategies (e.g. KWL,

Think Aloud, etc.) are included in at least two co-plans.  Self-evaluation or peer evaluation should be included in at least two co-plans in order to strengthen students’ reflective ability.

  • PEEGS Programme: Newly-developed materials will be executed in English classrooms.  Peer observation of try-outs will be arranged in J.1 and 5 in order to establish a habit in adopting e-learning pedagogy in the class.  Students can apply the reading strategies and read at home.

To cultivate students’ self-directed learning habits and self-reflective ability, White Space for thinking is created.

  • Create White Space for J.5-6 students to reflect their learning (e.g. in Notebooks).
  • Reflective Tips are used to guide students reflect how they learn.
  • Self-evaluation or peer evaluation should be included in at least two co-plans in order to strengthen students’ reflective ability. (e.g. Find two-three good sentences/ phrases in writing tasks.)
  • Teachers’ comments are given in each writing task in order to guide students to improve.
  • 4F strategies (Facts, Feeling, Finding, Future) are applied in J.5-6 teaching and learning.
  • J.4 Theme-based Learning Project
  • J.4 Excursion to Singapore, collaborate with G.S. Department to learn more about STEM education

Reading across Curriculum programme    is continually strengthened.

  • Different reading strategies are taught through collaborative teaching with Library Department. 
  • Different Reading across Curriculum activities can be held.
  • Students are encouraged to utilise the online library and e-learning platforms.

Students’ self-learning progress and work is displayed in various ways.

  • A print-rich environment is created.

All forms of students’ work will be displayed for encouragement and compliment.  School Award Scheme is implemented.

Strengthen the teaching of high order thinking skills

  • ‘6 Steps of Self-Directed Learning’ is included in one lesson plan in J.3-4 (Preparation, information reading, problems discussion, teachers’ feedback, self-practice and sharing).

The strategies of Differentiated Instruction are strengthened in order to cater for learning diversity.

  • Differentiated Instruction in J.2-4 is applied in one lesson plan.
  • 5A1 and 5A2 (two 5S classes) will be arranged to help SEN students and students of above average.
  • A project with
    The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) will be implemented (10-12 lessons) in order to help J.2 and J.3 students to enhance their phonics skills and the skills of word formation respectively.

 

 



 
III. Subject Plan

Objectives
1.To enhance English language learning
2.To improve teachers' understanding of students' strengths and abilities across different levels
3.To promote professional development



Strategies / Tasks

  • Weather report is done by students during morning assemblies on Tuesdays and Fridays.
  • News Commentary is introduced by J.5 and J.6 students during morning assemblies.
  • Different genres are introduced in the book sharing time.
  • English board games and card games are placed in Language Room.  Students can practice speaking during the games at lunch breaks.  Helpers walk around campus to promote the activity.  ‘Activity Stickers’ of the Award Scheme will be given as encouragement.
  • English video clips are played once per month to arouse their interest in learning English (Crazy Thursday).
  • Tongue Twister activity will be held on 2/F-6/F every Monday. 
  • Class-based Tongue Twister Competition will be held in the second term.
  • Each teacher is responsible to make at least one video.
  • Games instructed in English for KS1 students after Assessment 3.
  • Scriptures and lunch prayers are said on Mondays.
  • Puppetry Group, Readers Theatre Group and Scrabble Team are held during ECA time.
  • J.4 drama performance (Cooperating with Art Education Department)
  • Shakespeare4All Radio Drama and workshop will be held online.

The Vertical Curriculum Reflection is shared constantly.

  • The form of Vertical Curriculum Reflection will be printed by Panel Heads at the beginning of the school term.  Teachers will give a brief overview of it in the first level meeting in order to improve teachers’ understanding of students’ abilities.
  • Teacher training workshop on teaching phonics skills will be held by Jeff (A.T.) and NET.
  • An online drama workshop will be provided by Shakespeare4All (subject to the approval from the organisation).
